The Malawi Mission

Malawi
Nkhotakota is a port town in central Malawi, on the shore of Lake Malawi. The lakeshore has sandy beaches, traditional huts, and a ferry dock. The Livingstone Tree, near Mosque Bay, is where Scottish explorer Dr. David Livingstone met 19th-century slave trader Jumbe to try to stop the slave trade. West of town, the woodland, and rivers of Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve are home to elephants, lions, kingfishers, and storks.

Sometimes stepping out of the comfort zone goes a long way in changing us. For months we had been planning about this mission and every time it always seemed to out of reach, but God is so rich in mercy. So we got ready for the mission, connected with our hosts and we were ready to go and preach the gospel. Just before we set out, we heard the news that Malawi was no longer peaceful as there were previous elections which have been disputed. We almost postponed the mission again but we realized that the gospel to all nations much be preached even when the political situations are not favorable. If we decide to only preach when things are smooth then places, where terrorists operate, will never be reached by the gospel of our Lord.

So by faith, we set out to preach the gospel. We were 10 missionaries from East Africa and we were hosted by a local church in Malawi called Chanzi Assemblies of God together with the pastor’s fellowship. Malawians are warm people and we were received with so much love. The attendance from the locals was extremely good and we really thank God for that. Every single day there was an average of around 120 people going out for the door to door in the village of Nkhotakota.

The gospel was preached, people were saved, others were healed and we saw the hand of the Lord upon us. A fire was lit and we are confident that it will be stirred up even though we have left. The locals were stirred up to continue preaching the gospel. The zeal for the gospel was evident in the hearts of the people.

The Lord was with us and the gospel we preached was not lacking power. Miracles, healing, and deliverances were in plenty.  In one instance, a child who was dumb was able to speak. We give God all the glory for walking with us.
