Mission ABC is a program for children and youth who have learning disabilites.  Mission ABC is dedicated to creating awarness about learning disabilites and enriching the lives of children, youth and adults that have them.

Mission ABC does this  by:

Advocating for early detection by educating on the early warning signs, and working to create laws that will mandate assessing children for learning disabilities in pre-school before they get into kindergarden.
 - It has been proven that 67 percent of children that received early intervention for their learning disability were at normal or above normal reading levels by the third grade.

Breaking through the misconceptions about learning disabilities.

Changing peoples lives who have a learning disability by teaching self advocacy skills, and leading them to the resources they need to be succesful.

My name is Jayne Black and I grew up with a learning disability that went undiagnosed until my son's disability was diagnosed when he was in the second grade.  My son has now graduated from high school and, watching all that he has gone through and knowing what I experienced growing up, gave me a passion to help make a difference!  That is why Mission ABC is dedicated to educating about learning disabilities because it leads to diagnois and intervention.
Children who have learning disabilities have a higher rate of low self esteem, dropping out of school, using drugs and alcohol, and becoming  juvenile delinquents.  It is time to change this and we must start now.
Kids with learning disabilities don't start out with these problems.  They get them after time and time again being made to feel like misfits!  They are embarrassed to share with their friends that they have a learning disability because, as sad as it is, people still think that people with these problems are not intelligent.   Which is so untrue.  People with learning disabilities are typically average to above average in intelligence.  A learning disability does not create or mean an inability to learn, it merely means a person afflicted learns in a different way.  The only way to stop these misconceptions is to educate people about learning disabilities.
I offer ways to teach self Advocacy skills to your children because this will empower them to take control of their own lives!  Instead of spending energy “not wanting to have a learning disability” or denying that a learning disability exists, they need to acknowledge it and embrace it.  They need to find out what works for them and what doesn't and be able to verbalize their discoveries.
The day I realized I had a learning disability was the best day of my life because I realized I was NOT STUPID!  We need to allow others to Break through that same misconception.   Imagine working as hard or harder than your classmates and not being able to grasp the concepts they seemed to so easily grasp.  I never even considered going to college because I thought I would not make it; that I couldn't succeed because I was not smart enough.
Let's not let any more children think for even one more minute that they can not achieve the things they want to achieve!  Let's help them Change their lives through self-advocacy.
